Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) is used to produce very fine crystalline layers of a mixture of semiconductor materials on a crystalline substrate as wafers. The layers are deported by Molecular Beams in an Ultra-High Vacuum reactor to make an "epiwafer". Each layer can be grown from one to several thousand atoms thick and can be composed of different compounds These layers constitute the active structures used to make electronic and optoelectronic devices.
